(Wheeling, WV) Wheeling Symphony Orchestra (WSO) announces their annual holiday event, Symphony on Ice presented by Main Street Bank and Murray Energy Corporation and conducted by Music Director André Raphel. The performance will be held Tuesday, December 5 at 7:00 pm at Wesbanco Arena in Wheeling, WV.

Since its inception, Symphony on Ice has brought together the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra with championship skaters, area skate teams and clubs, local middle and high school choirs and plenty of special guest appearances.  This year continues that tradition. The program will feature professional skaters, Courtney Hicks and Robbie Przepioski.  Ms. Hicks is 2013 US Championships pewter medalist, the 2015 NHK Trophy silver medalist, and the 2016 Rostelecom Cup bronze medalist. Mr. Przepioski is a three-time Championship Men’s competitor at the US Figure Skating Nationals and a three-time Novice Pairs competitor for the US Figure Skating Nationals, where he was a 2015 Novice Pairs Pewter Medalist at the US Figure Skating Nationals.  In addition to the professional skaters, the Pittsburgh and Wheeling Skate Clubs will return to perform along with the West Virginia University Figure Skating team, who will be making their first appearance participating in Symphony on Ice.

Not only does Symphony on Ice bring the best entertainment in skating, it features many of Ohio Valley’s young musicians.  Over 300 local middle and high school choir students participate.  Schools include Brooke High School, Buckeye Local High School, Martins Ferry High School, St. Clairsville High School, Warwood Middle School, Wheeling Middle School, and Wheeling Park High School.

“Symphony on Ice is a holiday program that continues to be unique in bringing people together and combining various artistic disciplines,” says Music Director André Raphel.  “In the spirit of the holiday season, it helps bring joy to the community.  The orchestra and I look forward to the performance, which reminds us of holiday traditions and provides for very special collaborations through the music.”
