The Intelligencer/Wheeling-News Register ran an article on Saturday, April 14, 2018 that announced Wheeling Symphony Orchestra’s 2018-19 season and Music Director candidates.  The article included details that were released to the press including the four music director candidates and the 2018-19 season concerts via an embargoed press release. However, the information about how the season was announced by Maestro André Raphel at a reception following a Pops concert, a statement attributed to him about the four music director candidates, and his involvement in the announcement were incorrect.

The Intelligencer/Wheeling-New Register issued a correction that ran in the paper on Sunday, April 15, 2018; however, the original article has been picked up by other news sources.  We, at the Wheeling Symphony, want to clarify that Maestro Raphel was not involved with the selection and search process of the Wheeling Symphony’s Music Director Search or with the programming of the 2018-19 season.  The announcement of the 2018-19 season was released in the program of the Appalachian Rhapsody Pops concert on Friday, April 13, 2018.  The Music Director Search Committee includes Wheeling Symphony Board Members, Community Members, and Wheeling Symphony Orchestra Musicians.  We do not want the integrity of the search process or Maestro Raphel to be in question over the error in the article.
