(Wheeling, WV) Wheeling Symphony Orchestra (WSO) announces its annual Young People’s Concert tour, conducted by Maurice Staton, featuring guest artist Gary Adams and the program The Animated Orchestra. This educational tour reaches more than 4,000 area elementary school students from Ohio, Marshall and Wetzel Counties in West Virginia, Belmont and Jefferson counties in Ohio, and Washington County in Pennsylvania. Performances run from April 1 – 4.

“Making music with the Wheeling Symphony with so many friends and colleagues is just a pleasure,” says guest conductor and WSO violinist, Maurice Staton.  “It’s music making in its bare form, wonderful and infectious, which will translate to the students. It will make the concert, in particular The Animated Orchestra a great experience.”

Because of the impact the Young People’s Concert tour has on our area students, it exemplifies the Wheeling Symphony’s mission to provide orchestral programs that entertain, educate, and enhance the quality of life for our community and its residents. The program will feature works by Smetana, Strauss and Elgar in tandem with Greg Smith’s The Animated Orchestra. “These pieces are going to help show that the imagination is an untapped resource to musical growth,” adds Maurice Staton. “It will be a great show!”

The Young People’s Concert Tour is made possible by the following sponsors: Helen J. Prince Foundation, Schenk Charitable Trust, Karl and Mildred Niekamp Charitable Foundation, W.E. Stone Foundation, Elizabeth-Hess Gebhard Fund, Levenson Family Foundation, Sands Charitable Trust, Wheeling Hospital, and Hess Family Fund.
